Braces Straighter Teeth
Straighter Teeth Achieved at Every Age
Whether you are 10 or 60 a straighter, more brilliant smile is the surest way to boost confidence and self-esteem. However, we’ve spoken with adults who are hesitant to undergo the process of straightening their crooked teeth due to the stigma attached to older persons with straightening aids, or because of price.
While we can’t do much about the price and a patient’s individual dental benefits, we can talk with our patients about their options (and there are more than ever) for achieving a straighter smile… at any age.
We guarantee that most patients aren’t even aware of the changes and advancements made in the orthodontics field. Let’s look at the benefits and challenges of the key straightening methods that are available for kids, teens, adults and seniors alike.
When we say “traditional braces,” we are talking about the metal braces that so many still associate with orthodontics. Even though there are newer innovations, with the introduction of invisible aligners, traditional braces still play a very important role in teeth straightening. In fact, with some of the improvements to comfort, appearance and duration on teeth, some of our younger patients ask specifically for the traditional braces, wanting to make a statement with their colourful bands.
For more complex cases the use of traditional braces may be required, but your dentist will let you know. The traditional braces allow your dental team more control over the shifts that need to take place in the mouth for a better overall result. For simpler cases, or for those who don’t want an obvious straightening aid, the invisible aligners are often the best solution.
The choice more commonly requested by older patients is Invisalign. While still effective at shifting teeth into the desired position, some of our patients prefer a more low-visibility option. Plus, they enjoy the flexibility aligners bring. Only needing to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day depending on your need and dentist recommendation, the user can remove the aligners for general maintenance, cleaning and eating.
Those with Invisalign don’t have to say no to things like popcorn and chewy candies… although, we recommend those continue to be very infrequent treats. Another benefit to Invisalign is fewer visits to your Lawrence Avenue Dental Team. With traditional braces, you will visit once a month, whereas with Invisalign, your visits are approximately every 6 to 8 weeks.
Your North York dentist will talk with you about all the options, timing, costs, etc… to achieve the desired result. Just know that you don’t have to be limited by age or activity any longer.
We get that this can be overwhelming, so let us take some of the pressure off your shoulders. Talk with our Lawrence Avenue Dental team and we will answer all your questions so you can make the decision that’s right for you.
