Enhance Your Smile – From Toronto Cosmetic Dentist
Composite veneers are a great solution for patients looking for a brighter, whiter, more vibrant smile. Getting veneers is like adding a thin cover to the front of your teeth to improve the way they look. They can be made of porcelain or composite, but there are two main benefits to composite over porcelain.
Composite veneers are both less expensive than porcelain, and they’re easier and faster to apply. Porcelain veneers usually take two to three dental appointments to apply, and they are constructed in a dental laboratory, taking more time and costing more money. Composite veneers can usually be made on the spot and applied in a single visit.
There are two types – direct composite and indirect.
With direct composite veneers, veneers made of a composite resin material are applied directly to the surface of your teeth. This is simpler and less invasive then indirect composite veneers.
Indirect veneers are made of the same material but require a different application process. These veneers must be constructed outside of your mouth in a dental office or lab, and then applied to your teeth using an adhesive, rather than being applied directly to your teeth like the direct veneers. If you need indirect composite veneers, your dentist will provide you with temporary veneers to wear until your set is ready. While direct veneers are easier, faster and often less expensive, they are more prone to abrasions and fractures than indirect veneers.
While it is true that porcelain veneers are stronger, making them more difficult to stain or damage, they are also more difficult and expensive to repair or replace.
They don’t last quite as long (composites have a 7-10- year lifespan compared to 15-20 years for porcelain), but if there is an issue it can usually be fixed in a single session, compared to a full replacement.
